Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is a black grape variety that produces a lighter bodied red wine and is a variety that has been and continues to gain popularity all over the world.
Originating from Burgundy, France, Pinot Noir can be a temperamental and difficult grape to grow. Luckily, New Zealand has several regions with the perfect conditions for Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir can be grown all around the world, but the conditions must be right to make high quality wines. Even though Pinot Noir can be produced as a single varietal wine, it can also be used in a wide range of blends, rosés and is a main component of Champagne and sparkling wines.
Every Pinot Noir producing region makes different wines as a result of the terroir and climate of the vineyard. New Zealand is no different, where and how the grape was grown will show through in the wine. Pinot Noir can be grown in various locations throughout New Zealand, this includes regions such as Central Otago, Marlborough, Waipara Valley/North Canterbury, and Wairarapa (Gladstone, Masterton, and Martinborough). Each region has unique growing conditions and produces dramatically different wines. Central Otago Pinot Noir has consistently received high praise all around the world.
At the International Wine Challenge in London, Central Otago Pinot Noir has taken home the champion red wine of the world numerous times! There are so many iconic Pinots and we have wines available from the following producers; Ata Rangi, Carrick, Chard Farm, Felton Road, Neudorf, Pegasus Bay, Terra Sancta and Valli.
