Coxs’ Vineyard is a family owned vineyard in the Central Otago subregion of Gibbston, Central Otago. Established in 1999 by Doug Cox, the vineyard was run as a contract grape growing operation for its first 15 years. Local wineries such as Peregrine, Maude, Burn Cottage, Invivo, and Takapoto Estate have all benefited from the high quality grapes produced from this vineyard. Using 100% Coxs’ Vineyard fruit, Andy Anderson from Takapoto Estate won the International Wine Challenge’s Pinot Noir Gold Trophy with his Takapoto Single Vineyard Gibbston Pinot Noir 2012 and 2014.
In 2013, Doug wanted to step down from the vineyard operation and offered it to his son, Simon, and his wife, Leah. Simon and Leah stepped up and decided in 2015 to produce single vineyard wines of their own as well as selling a small amount of contract fruit. Today, Coxs’ Vineyard produces a single vineyard Pinot Noir and a single vineyard Pinot Gris. Over the last several years, they have utilised the talents of local winemakers such as Jenn Parr (Valli) and Sean Brennan (Brennan Wines). Total production of Coxs’ Vineyard has increased incrementally over the last few years, but remains quite small at approximately 400 cases per year.
