Tohu is New Zealand's oldest Maori-owned wine label and was launched in 1998 by the Wakatu Incorporation and 2 Maori partners. Today it operates as an independent company under the umbrella of Kono, the food and beverage arm of Wakatu Incorporation.
Since its first vintage in 1998, Tohu has continued from strength to strength. It planted its first vineyard in 2002 in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough and in 2005, planted another in the Moutere region outside Nelson. Tohu established their own winery in the Awatere Valley in 2012. Tohu wines have been selected by Air New Zealand to appear on their Fine Wines of New Zealand wine list, and in 2018, their Tohu Single Vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc was selected to be served to US President Barack Obama at an invitation only dinner in Auckland.
Tohu’s values of excellence, kindness, and innovation are clearly reflected in their 4 wine series. Whether it's a family lunch or a wedding celebration, Tohu produces wines perfect for any occasion. Their current wines include: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Albarino, and Pinot Noir.
