The vineyards and cellar door of the Man O’ War winery are located at the remote eastern end of Waiheke Island. The 45 minute drive from the main township takes you along gravel roads past stunning coastal hillsides, vineyards and the pristine beaches of the rugged coastline.
The family owned estate was established in the 1980’s as a series of farms were purchased and the family recognised the world class wines being produced by the likes of Stonyridge Vineyard on Waiheke Island.
The first Man O’ War vines were planted in 1993 and today over 150 acres of vines extend over 76 different hillside blocks. The terroir of each block has distinct volcanic soil profiles and micro-climates with different clones, rootstock and planting densities being carefully selected for each site.
The wines are highly regarded, from the extremely limited super premium ‘Kulta’ Series released on in the best vintages, through the Man O’ War flagship range of the ‘Ironclad’ Bordeaux blend, ‘Warspite’ Cabernet Franc Merlot Malbec, ‘Dreadnought’ Syrah, ‘Valhalla’ and ‘Valkyrie’ Chardonnays, ‘Exiled’ Pinot Gris, ‘Pinque’ Rose and the excellent value Estate range.
