Established in 1993, Two Paddocks is owned and operated by actor Sam Neill.
From an initial Pinot Noir vineyard of just 5 acres (2.0 ha) in the Gibbston sub-region of Central Otago, Two Paddocks has expanded over the last 20 years with vineyards now across each of the Earnscleugh (Alexandra), Gibbston Valley, Bannockburn and Cromwell Basin sub-regions. Since 2013 all Two Paddocks wines have been certified organic and since the 2017 vintage have been under the BioGro programme.
Sam has a family connection with the wine industry that goes back 150 years. His grandfather Sidney founded Neill and Co, a wine and spirits merchant in Dunedin, New Zealand. That eventually became Wilson Neill and was run by his father Dermott, a former major in the Royal Irish Fusiliers.
'The Fusilier', 'The Last Chance' and 'The First Paddock' are all highly sought after and strictly allocated single vineyard Pinot Noir's from Two Paddocks. 'Picnic' is the second label, largely produced from grapes sourced from other vineyards, with good value Pinot Noir and Riesling bottled.
