Two Paddocks
Established in 1993, Two Paddocks is owned and operated by local Kiwi and international movie star, Sam Neill. Sam has a family connection with the wine industry that goes back 150 years. His grandfather Sidney founded Neill and Co, a wine and spirits merchant in Dunedin, New Zealand. That eventually became Wilson Neill and was run by his father Dermott, a former major in the Royal Irish Fusiliers.
From an initial Pinot Noir vineyard of just 5 acres (2.0 ha) in the Gibbston sub-region of Central Otago, which produces a single vineyard wine called ‘First Paddock’. In 1998, another vineyard was added when Sam bought an old DOC research station in Alexandra and in 2000 produced a wine from the world’s most southerly vineyard labelled “The Last Chance”. Two Paddocks' last vineyard was acquired in 2013 at the end of Felton Road in Bannockburn and is called “The Fusiler”.
'The Fusilier', 'The Last Chance' and 'The First Paddock' are all highly sought after and strictly allocated single vineyard Pinot Noir's from Two Paddocks. 'Picnic' is the second label, largely produced from grapes sourced from other vineyards, with good value Pinot Noir and Riesling bottled.
