Peregrine Winery
Peregrine Wines was co-founded by wine entrepreneur Greg Hay and other shareholders in the late 1990s, shortly after in 2003, the current owners Fraser and Lindsay McLachlan joined the team. Today Peregrine is a boutique producer of a range of wines, while it was their 1998 Sauvignon Blanc that boosted them into fame, today they have a larger focus on Pinot Noir, but still produce an outstanding range of white varietals. Peregrine Wines was named in honour of New Zealand’s endemic falcon, these falcons can be seen flying around the Peregrine vineyard and winery located in the Gibbston Valley.
This family owned company has gained a reputation both domestically and internationally as one of New Zealand’s iconic wine brands. In 2010, accountant turned winemaker, Nadine Cross became the winemaker at Peregrine, with her help, Peregrine has continued to make award winning organic wine. Across their various vineyards located in Gibbston, Pisa and Bendigo, they grow grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
While Peregrine Wines is their main label, every now again ‘The Pinnacle’ arises. This is one to keep your eye out for, as they do not make it every year. The Pinnacle can only be made when the seasons are perfect, and when Peregrine believes they have something special, they will create a Pinnacle vintage of wines such as their Pinot Noir or Chardonnay.
