Koyama Wines
Koyama Wines is the story of Takahiro Koyama, who arrived from Japan to New Zealand in 2003 to study winemaking at Lincoln University. After learning the ropes as a cellar hand from the renowned CP Lin at Mountford Estate, he started to make his own wine in 2009, also in Waipara. Takahiro has been impressing us at The Winery with his red and white Koyama wines ever since then.
His wines stand out from the crowd just like the big dragon on the label. Koyama Wines produces a few stunning Pinot Noirs, their wines coming from grapes from different vineyards; the William’s Vineyard and the Pearson’s Vineyard, for better terroir expression. The Tussock Terrace Riesling is a semi-sweet, botrytised style, with poised freshness and tangy tangerine peel. They even produce a sparkling Methode Traditionelle (think Champagne) made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.
