Michael Vineyard

Named after the founder, Michael Syrah is an incredibly small operation at the far eastern end of Waiheke Island. The north-facing vineyard is meticulous managed by hand, including harvest and sorting. Michael Syrah is pressed at a neighbouring winery, fermented by wild yeasts, stored for 20 months in French oak barrels, then bottled and bottle-aged to fully develop every nuanced flavour. Every bottle is labelled and wax-sealed by hand.

True Old World techniques are used at every stage of development. Each individual vine has its own wooden stake, which is a tell-tale sign that Michael Syrah Vineyard is modelled after the old European vineyards. Winemaker Herb Freidli crafts this boutique syrah with his holistic flair to bring out the most natural and expressive notes. Very little sulphites are added in order to keep it as natural as possible. Simply put, this is an incredibly concentrated, well-made syrah that is true to its terroir.
