Kidnapper Cliffs Wines
Kidnapper Cliffs was brought about from the effort of a joint venture between Dry River’s wine making approach with Hawke’s Bay fruit. Originally owned by the Robertson family (who owned both Dry River and Te Awa at the time), the grapes grown for this label had a small 17 hectare space in the Gimblett Gravels region. The production of this wine was a team effort between Te Awa’s Ant Mackenzie and Dry River’s Dr. Neil McCallum, collaborating on the winemaking duties and viticultural oversight.
Named after Cape Kidnappers, which is located in Hawke’s Bay close to Napier, this wine label has produced some award-winning wines. Their 2013 Bordeaux Blend is a perfect example. This Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend has a mouth-filling body and very generous blackcurrant, plum, spice and French oak flavours. It is a compelling wine with a strong personality. In 2012, both Te Awa and Kidnapper Cliffs were bought by Villa Maria.
