Greywacke Vineyard
Greywacke, established in 2009, is the label of Kevin Judd, situated in the heart of Marlborough’s Omaka Valley. Kevin Judd is one of Marlborough’s pioneer winemakers whose career is intrinsically linked with the global profile of New Zealand wine. Born in England and raised in Australia, where he studied winemaking, he moved to New Zealand in 1983 and then became the founding winemaker at Cloudy Bay and managed it for 25 vintages!
Greywacke takes its name from New Zealand’s most abundant bedrock which are found throughout Marlborough’s rivers and alluvial vineyard soils. All vineyards are sustainably managed with substantial and increasing proportions coming from organically farmed sites. Minimal intervention winemaking is adopted by Kevin Judd and his team to create wines with personality and individuality, aiming for subtle, ripe, delicious-drinking styles. Wild (indigenous) yeast fermentations are used extensively to incorporate savouriness to the flavour profile and build on the structure and intensity of mouthfeel.
The Greywacke range includes 7 wines with 2 different styles of Sauvignon Blanc (Classic and Wild Sauvignon Blanc), a Pinot Noir and limited releases of Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Gris which is also made Botrytised style.
