Doctors Flat Vineyard
Doctor’s Flat is an artisanal vineyard of 3 hectares located in the Central Otago subregion of Bannockburn. The owner is Steve Davies, who functions as viticulturist, winemaker, and vineyard staff. Steve has a postgraduate diploma in viticultural and oenology from Lincoln University and learned his craft spending 8 years working in Napa as well as vintages in Oregon and Burgundy. In New Zealand, Steve has made wines for Carrick, Akarua, and Alan Scott among others.
The site of the Doctor’s Flat vineyard is just beyond the small Bannockburn township and sits approximately 100 metres higher than the majority of other Bannockburn vineyards. Planted in 5 blocks, Steve has chosen two rootstocks and three Dijon clones from Burgundy that have adapted perfectly to Central Otago surroundings. The vineyard is farmed organically, with special attention to soil health. The resulting Doctor’s Flat single vineyard Pinot Noirs have garnered rave reviews by Michael Cooper, Sam Kim, and Bob Campbell, MW.
