Millton Vineyards

In 1984 James and Annie Millton established The Millton Vineyard on the banks of the Te Arai River near Manutuke in Gisborne, where the early settlers first planted grapevines in 1871. There are three individual vineyards; Opou, Te Arai and the Clos de Ste. Anne.

Traditional viticulture is practised in all vineyards and all are dry-farmed, with no insecticide, herbicide, systemic fungicide or soluble fertilisers used.
Millton’s stunning Clos de Ste. Anne wines are crafted from small volumes of ultra-premium grapes grown on the amphitheatre-like slopes of the ‘grand cru’. Further down the hillside are ‘premier cru’ plantings, for the Millton Single Vineyard Estate wines.

James’ favourite wine and absolute passion is Chenin Blanc – their Chenin, Te Arai Vineyard is widely acknowledged as being the best in New Zealand.
