Cable Bay Vineyards
Cable Bay is a self-sufficient producer that uses fruit from their estate-owned vineyards on Waiheke Island and Marlborough to produce premium wines. Cable Bay planted their first vineyard on the western side of Waiheke Island in 1998 and made their first Chardonnay in 2002, which went on to win a gold medal at the International Wine Challenge in London.
Looking to expand, Cable Bay bought two vineyards in the Awatere Valley in Marlborough. All of their vineyards are New Zealand Sustainable Winegrowing accredited, and some are BioGro certified organic.
On Waiheke Island, Cable Bay grows Pinot Gris, Viognier, Marsanne, Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot, and Malbec. All fruit from Waiheke Island is tended to and harvested by hand. Down in Marlborough, in the Awatere Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir are planted. The management of the Marlborough vineyards is done by hand, but harvest is completed by machine.
