Providence Vineyards
Providence Vineyards is a single vineyard estate that has been making incredible hand crafted wines for 30 years.
Providence is located in Matakana, 60 km north of Auckland. Owner and winemaker James Vuletic brought generations of traditional growing and winemaking from the Old World (Europe) to New Zealand. James believes great wine must have elegance, balance and finesse - core attributes of Providence Vineyards.
Matakana was selected for the vineyard because of its microclimate; it has reasonably low rainfall, free draining iron-rich clay soils, and high number of sunshine hours per year. Currently, Providence Vineyard’s 2-hectare vineyard is planted with 45% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot and 10% Malbec. Additionally, there is a small amount of Syrah vines which, thanks to increasing overseas support, has crafted Providence Syrah into a cult classic.
Vineyard maintenance is done the old-fashioned way by delicate and caring hands. Grapes go from being picked to an old wooden vat in the winery within an hour. All Providence Vinyard wines spend 21-24 months in 100% new French oak barriques in order to develop complex, elegant and long-aging wine.
