Prophet's Rock

​​It has been said that the essence of a place can be found in a glass of wine, this is true of the Prophet’s Rock range. A significant influence on the wine style is winemaker Paul Pujol who joined the team in 2005. While Paul is originally from New Zealand, he has worked a number of years in France’s classical wine regions such as Sancerre, Burgundy and Alsace, so don’t be too surprised if you find their white wines closely resembling those from the Alsace region. 

Prophet’s Rock is dedicated to the production of premium Pinot Noir, Riesling and Pinot Gris. These grapes are grown across their Home, Rocky Point and Kopuwai Delta vineyards in the Bendigo region of Central Otago. The Pinot Gris and Riesling are slowly and gently whole-pressed, followed by long slow ferments in barrel and aged on yeasts prior to bottling. While their Pinot Noir is fermented only using wild and indigenous yeast from the vineyard, it is then barrel aged and bottled unfiltered. All of their wines are perfect for drinking now or for cellaring for a few years. Prophet’s Rock is also looking to expand their range to include Chardonnay, Muscat and Gewürztraminer. So keep your eyes peeled for these exciting new releases. 

One aspect about Prophet’s Rock that is truly unique, is their Cuvée Aux Antipodes range. This extraordinary range is a collaboration from French winemaker, François Millet and Paul Pujol, where the wine produced is a mix of both New and Old World winemaking techniques. Their 2018 Cuvée Aux Antipodes Pinot Noir can be described with aromas and flavours of red fruits and wood spice with a seamless connection to earth and mineral layers. François has described the collaboration as a culture adventure.
