Peregrine's Sauvignon Blanc 2026 comes from organically farmed vines across the Bendigo and Pisa sub-regions of Central Otago, the same vineyard behind a run of recent Gold Medal and 90-plus-point results for this label. Citrus and stone fruit with a herbal lift and real mineral drive, backed by the fresh acidity Central Otago is known for. Made at the winery famous for its falcon-wing roof, by the same family since 1998.

Central Otago isn't where most people picture New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc coming from - that's usually Marlborough. Peregrine's version is built on Bendigo and Pisa fruit instead, sub-regions known for warm days and a sharp drop in temperature overnight, which is what keeps the acidity so fresh even as the fruit ripens properly.

It's a genuine alternative to the Marlborough style: less overtly grassy, with more stone fruit and mineral texture underneath the citrus. It's an easy match for a weeknight seafood dinner or a first glass on a warm evening, and it's organically grown, which matters to a lot of our customers who ask specifically for that.

What it tastes like

Citrus and stone fruit lead - think lime zest, feijoa and rock melon - with a herbal, savoury undertone running underneath. The palate is fresh and mouth-watering, with real mineral texture and a clean, dry finish. It's the label's consistent house style: vibrant rather than blowsy, with the acidity doing as much of the work as the fruit.

Style at a glance

  • Body: Light to medium
  • Sweetness: Dry
  • Acidity: Fresh, mouth-watering
  • Oak: None - fermented in stainless steel to keep the fruit and site upfront
  • Style: Organic, mineral-driven Central Otago Sauvignon Blanc

Food

Fresh oysters, grilled snapper, a green pea and mint risotto, goat's cheese salad, Thai fishcakes, or a simple plate of asparagus with lemon if you want something that leans into the wine's herbal side rather than fighting it.

Who makes it

Peregrine has been run hands-on by the McLachlan family since 1998, farming three organically certified sub-regions of Central Otago: Bendigo, among the hottest and driest sites in the region; Gibbston, home to some of Central Otago's first commercial vines and site of the winery itself; and Pisa, covering warmer, flatter ground including Lowburn. The winery building, completed in 2003, is designed to evoke a falcon's wing in flight and has picked up the New Zealand Institute of Architects' Supreme Award along with international recognition - it's as much a Central Otago landmark as it is a place to make wine. The label's recent vintages have backed that reputation up: the 2025 Sauvignon Blanc took a Gold Medal and 95 points at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2026, and the 2024 picked up 94 points from Cameron Douglas MS and 90 points from Erin Larkin at RobertParker.com.

When to drink it

Like most Sauvignon Blanc, this is best enjoyed within its first two to three years, while the fruit and acidity are at their freshest. Straight from the fridge is fine, but it opens up nicely with ten minutes to warm slightly in the glass.
