What happens when you get scientists in a vineyard? Easy, you get Māori Point, this vineyard is an amazing example of science and nature in perfect balance. Dr. John Harris and Dr. Marilyn Duxson first planted the Māori Point Vineyard in 2002, both of the founders have had successful careers as scientists across multiple different countries. Their attention to detail allows them to have a unique understanding of the climate, soil and vines in their vineyard, which is located by the banks of the Clutha river at the north end of the Pisa Range in Central Otago. 

In 2011, Matt Evans, Māori Point’s current winemaker and his wife, Maggie moved to New Zealand from Silicon Valley, California. Together, they produce delicious low yield wines with small fermentations. Their award winning Pinot Noir is not filtered or fined, and they let nature take its course with a native wild yeast fermentation.

Māori Point Vineyard is not just limited to Pinot Noir, their range also includes Pinot Gris, Riesling and Rosé. We are looking forward to seeing what other amazing scientific breakthroughs Māori Point can deliver in the future.
